Napolitano endorses Obama

As the campaign for '08 moves west, Illinois Senator, Barack Obama, picked up a major endorsement from Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano. Napolitano announced her endorsement of Obama this afternoon at the Valley's Obama headquarters in Phoenix. Napolitano is the most powerful democrat in Arizona and her endorsement may be crucial to Obama in his quest to win his party's nomination and the Arizona Democratic Primary on February 5th.

On the political map, the Grand Canyon state is now one of several in the Southwest considered to be winnable for the Democrats in the 2008 General Election, after several decades of solid Republican control. Napolitano is just one of five female governors in their second term and wants to see her sate go blue in 2008. When asked why she has endorsed the junior Illinois Senator, Napolitano explains, "I chose Sen. Obama because ... to me, this election is fundamentally about change. It's about a new vision in Washington, D.C. It's about bringing people of different areas of the country together, it's about bringing people of different parties together, people of different ages together. To me, Sen. Obama is evidence of that change that we need."
